Swim with Dolphins - Adelaide

Birthday Dolphin Swim

Recently I hit a milestone birthday and was spoilt with a swim with the Dolphins Tour as one of my pressies.  I also shared this experience with my Dad and partner.

The day began with an epic journey of leaving the Fleurieu Peninsula where I live at 530am, catching the sunrise along the way, to arrive into Glenelg and ready to board Temptation Sailing Catamaran at Holdfast Shores by 720am.  We were greeted by the crew who welcomed us aboard and gave us a quick brief.  Time to set sail!  Not too far from shore we were in the water with our 5mm wetsuit and snorkel gear and no time to waste.  With a boat full of participants, all holding onto the lines, searching around to spot a Dolphin and the crew yelling out at us where to look… I must admit was tough conditions initially.  After a few minutes the Dolphins were gone so we climbed back on board and travelled a bit further in search of more.

The second time I was one of the few people who chose to stay out of the water and take a boat view of the Dolphins.  We were rewarded with a large pod of beautiful Dolphins to see, who were happy the play around to boat for quite a while.  What a warm feeling they share with us! My Dad and partner were keen to swim again and Dad was thrilled with excitement as he was close enough to touch them, although disappointed he wasn’t allowed.  My partner, being a surfer and regularly sees Dolphins in the surf, wasn’t expecting too much from the tour although was somewhat surprised by the experience and captured some great pics.   This was an amazing Australian adventure tours that you shouldn't miss.

Out of the water was freezing but met some interesting people all huddled around in a group sharing stories and the warm shower hose

We set sail attempting to gain warmth basking in the sun in search for another pod of Dolphins.  Soon it was back into the water to see the third pod we discovered.  This time I was persistent to swim with the Dolphins, since most of the participants had had enough from the second swim and chose to finish.  In the water, along the line again, face in the water and… WOW!.. I spotted a Dolphin not too far away!  What an amazing experience to swim with such beautiful creatures and great way to spend my birthday!

Cheers
