Adventure in your own backyard!

Fleurieu Peninsula jet

If you have travelled, and been up early and explored a new place, walking and looking around with eager eyes, smelling different odours in the air and losing yourself in your surroundings, you will know how cool this feeling is.  Things are new, you can clear your head, you can lose yourself in a new place and all that it has to offer.  It is an awesome feeling.

I woke up early this morning and went for a run, the sun was coming up, the birds were chirping and there was a gentle sea mist on the horizon.  I felt like I could have been anywhere in the world, I took a different route to my normal running path and it felt like I was in a new place, exploring and taking in all my surrounds had to offer.

I wasn't in some exotic part of the world, but rather in my own backyard and this is the whole point.  You don't have to be on the other side of the country or the globe to feel like you are on holiday in a new place, exploring, searching out new experiences and living life like you don't have care in the world.  You can do this in your day-to-day life if you get the right mindset.

I bet if you look around at your own backyard, you will find a variety of activities in Australia that can satisfy your need for adventure, thrill and adrenalin.  I know in my backyard, I have within 30 minutes in numerous directions: surfing, sky diving, kayaking, fishing, boating, sailing, 4WDriving, bush walking, boat tours, boat cruises, train rides, wine tasing, a local brewery, cafes, restaurants, pubs, waterfalls, snorkelling, diving, paragliding, hand gliding, jet skiing, joy flights, swimming beaches, beautiful wildlife viewing spots, whales, aussie wildlife, a bike track, skate parks, water skiing, horse riding, quad bikes and more - this is without sitting there for ages racking my brain, these are real experiences just waiting to happen.

I live in an awesome town called Middleton, we are located 1.5 hours from Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.  We only have around 1000 residents and about 2500 houses (mostly to cater for the holiday market).  I love to travel, I love to experience new things and I love to have adventure in my life.  It amazes me however how many people don't get out and live whilst in the everyday lives, and leave this when they are away on holiday.  There are so many things to do if you think about it in your own backyard.  It doesn't matter where you live, if you stop, consciously think about the experiences available to you in your own backyard, you will most likely be amazed at how much your own region has to offer. This small awakening I have had today, this recognition of what I have in my own backyard and wanting to make the most of my life day to day, not just when I go on a holiday (which I might add is not very often) but all the time, should be a reminder to everyone that you should keep on having fun, exploring, experiencing adventures not only in your imagination and on holidays - but all the time in your own backyard.  There is so much fun to be had.

So I urge you to stop, think about what is out there in your own region, what fun there is to be had, be grateful, explore and soak in all that your own backyard has to offer.
