Sandboarding on Kangaroo Island

Sandboarding at Little Sahara, Kangaroo Island

Little Sahara is a system of naturally occurring coastal blowout dunes that cover approximately two square kilometres on the South Coast of Kangaroo Island. The dunes vary in size, with the biggest dune being 70 metres above sea level.

There are a number of ways to have fun at Little Sahara, you can sandboard on a stand-up beginners board or get a bit tricky with a performance stand-up board. If you’re not quite that adventurous or after something a little more low key, I say go for Toboggan option as they are very easy to learn in and you just sit down and hold on.

Sandboarding is like surfing or snowboarding on sand - you get great speed, it is best to go straight down as the boards are hard to turn.  Little Sahara has great dunes - it's just a matter of hiking up them!  Be aware - sand goes everywhere!

Little Sahara is located on the South Coast Road approximately 90km from the Penneshaw Ferry Terminal, between Seal bay and Vivonne Bay.

Sandboarding is included in our 2-day Kangaroo Island tours from Adelaide.
