The word Mindil is derived from the Larrakia word Min-deel which means sweet nutgrass. The market started in the mid 1980's by 6 entrepreneurs who shared their vision to bring a taste of Asia’s night markets to the tropical town of Darwin.

The market is open Thursday and Sunday from 5pm to around 9pm. Locals normally take the esky to enjoy a few beers on the beach watching the sunset with a tasty meal from the market. There are also fun-filled activities to do in Darwin that you might enjoy while in the area.
